Ruts suck. If you’ve ever been in one, you know the feeling. You just don’t give a shit. There is no inspiration, no motivation, no action. Just getting out of bed and getting to work on your business can feel impossible.
This morning I was in a little rut.
I can’t say I’m surprised. A bachelor party weekend will do that to ya. Too many beers and not enough sleep will leaves me feeling pretty drained.
But I got out of, and quickly. My trick. Move.
Our bodies were meant to move. Simply moving your body changes your physiology, which changes how you feel, which changes how you behave. If you have the time, and want to know more about the science, I suggest checking out this TED Talk by Dr. Alan Watkins.
It really doesn’t matter what you do. Just move your body. For me it was 30 minutes on a treadmill at a high incline, low speed. Low intensity, but gets your heart pumping.
For you, it might be 20 push ups. Or 30 jumping jacks. Or 10 burpees.
It could just be 5 minute walk with the dog. Or a short jog with a friend. Heck, it could be a yoga video you watch on YouTube.
- More recent science suggests our behavior and actions can be affected by our physiology.
- When you feel stuck in a rut, just find a way to move.
